Across Hampton Blvd, you’ll find one more block of campus simply called, "Monarch Way." Monarch Way is home to our Arts District, Health Sciences, Chartway Arena, the ODU Bookstore, and fantastic dining options. At the north end, you’ll find Brock Commons, an outdoor performance area.
Brock Commons is home to the Reign the Mermaid which was designed by former ODU students Brooke Benham and Georgia Mason. It was dedicated during homecoming in October of 2020 through student initiatives, with call backs to ODU chants “Reign On” and “Monarchs Reign.” Click here to listen now.

🧜♀️ Reign the Mermaid
Reign the Mermaid is ODU’s own mermaid statue! Unveiled during Homecoming in October 2020, this was a student-led initiative and designed by ODU art student, Brooke Benham and created by an ODU alum, Georgia Mason.

Of your dining options on Monarch Way, Chick-Fil-A, Panera, and Provisions on Demand, or POD, can be used with your meal plan. Other restaurants include La Herradura, Osaka Ramen and Sushi, Punjabi Rasoi Indian Cuisine, Insomnia Cookies, Gong Cha, Domino’s Pizza, Borjo’s Coffee, Zoup, Zero’s Subs, Mojo Bones, and campus wide favorite Perfectly Franks.
