The F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music is housed in the F. Ludwig Diehn Center for the Performing Arts, opened in 1991.
The home to ODU’s performing arts is found in the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts. This houses the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music, 4 ballet studios, Chandler Recital Hall, and the Composers Music Library. Diehn is also home to the Pride of Old Dominion, the Monarch Marching Band.
With national and international partners, students have the opportunity to perform with all types of groups, such as the Virginia Wind Symphony. Click here to listen now.

Chandler Recital Hall hosts concert series for traveling groups and performances from ODU faculty and students.
🥁 Monarch Marching Band
All students are welcome to audition for wind, percussion, and color guard. Members of the Monarch Marching Band perform at all home football games, can participate in Basketball band, provide instrumentation for other sporting events, and even travel to away games, Football Bowl games, and Basketball tournaments. Catch the Monarchs in Ireland for the 2025 St. Patrick’s Day parade!
