Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve
On the south side of campus, the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve is home to an abundance of activities. From environmental organization work to Vassar Rugby games, the farm is teeming with activity. The ecological preserve also provides scenic hiking trails, guided tours, and opportunities for scientific research.

The mission of the Vassar Ecological Preserve is to protect and preserve the ecological diversity of the land to ensure that its educational value will be maintained in perpetuity. The Vassar Ecological Preserve promotes increased understanding and appreciation of the natural systems on the preserve through field-based education and research. This mission is upheld by the many organizations that occupy the space, including the Environmental Cooperative at the Vassar Barns, the Hudson Valley Corps of the Student Conservation Association, Community Gardens, and the Poughkeepsie Farm Project.
Research
The 415 acre preserve provides a multitude of habitats including streams, wetlands, ponds, forest, and a stunning diversity of flora and fauna for students and organizations to research and interact with. In the past, students have researched many topics such as climate change impacts, lyme disease, and forest regeneration. Current research projects include habitat mapping, environmental effects of pathogens, wildlife monitoring, and more!
