About BA Writing & Literature

Spaces for inspiration

🗯️ About BA Writing & Literature

Here, writers are artists and literary makers. Whether your focus is poetry, fiction, editorial, or comics, your work will be creative and critical. Other disciplines will support your writing practice, whether taking an elective in film or collaborating on a comic. You’ll also get 1:1 guidance from faculty, who are here to help you develop as a writer.

Humble Pie

CCA’s undergraduate student-run literary magazine provides editorial and publishing opportunities with annual calls for poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid writing, and visual art. Published in spring 2022, the 19th volume explores the theme of TRANSITION through the lens of marginalized and underrepresented voices. This fall, we’re offering an accompanying class, Humble Pie Radio, which will be part experimental audio lab, part writing workshop.

🛠️ Spaces for inspiration

Writing and literature classes are held in the Main Building and other general assignment classrooms, but all making facilities are available to inspire your creative writing. For example, Carlina Espuda’s (BFA Writing 2021) poetry creates shapes on the page as the words express her multicultural heritage and spirituality.

Simpson Library

The CCA Libraries' collections goes beyond the typical books and journals you'd expect in an academic library. Our holdings are designed to support the nature of learning at CCA and archives preserve the history of our college. Browse and search our books and media, article databases, materials samples, and special collections. Research guides helpfully curate resources by discipline and topic.

2D Drawing Studios

Students are encouraged to experiment with charcoal, ink, and paint at large tables, easels, and palette tables. Extensive props, including animal and human skeletons, as well as numerous options for staging and lighting.
