Dining Halls
Stanford’s versatile dining plan options allow students to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner meals in any of 10 dining halls, as well as use additional “dining dollars” to eat or shop at University-run dining facilities, cafés, and markets. Stanford’s award-winning dining services offer a huge variety of options and accommodates food preferences and requirements for the campus’ diverse population, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and halal.
House Kitchens
Whereas dorms have dining halls, houses have kitchens! In “Self-Op” houses, residents manage the operations of meal service and hire a house cook, who prepare all meals. The kitchen is generally open to students outside mealtimes. In “Co-Op” houses, student Kitchen Managers (KMs) oversee the open kitchens; residents are responsible for contributing to meal prep by completing scheduled tasks such as cooking, cleaning or baking bread. As one KM puts it, “The kitchen is the heart of the co-op!”
Retail Cafés, Markets, etc.
There is a wide variety of popular retail eateries across the entire campus, some for which you can use allotted meal plan dollars. For those who prefer to cook for themselves, or just the convenience of shopping some or all of their own food, there is a regular campus farmer’s market, The Market at Munger is your go-to local market that makes campus living easier with everything you need from ready-to-eat meals, fresh produce, groceries and a variety of ingredients for home cooking, as well as household and personal essentials to get you through the week.
Late Night
You're up late studying until you’re not only delirious but also ravenous -- time for Late Night! Stanford’s Residential & Dining Enterprises provides a variety of options around campus that are perfect for finding everything from healthy late-night sustenance (including plant-based favorites) to your go-to comfort foods, including pizza, breakfast-for-dinner, desserts, TAP’s ever-popular mozzarella sticks, or just that extra shot of caffeine.
