School of Social Sciences

Building Research on Inequality and Diversity to Grow Equity (BRIDGE)

⭐ School of Social Sciences

Rice University's School of Social Sciences is a vibrant, inclusive community of scholars, students and educators committed to connecting our teaching and research with policy for the betterment of society. We are seven departments with one mission: to tackle society's greatest challenges with an unconventional vision toward shaping a future that we can all thrive in, both individually and collectively.

The school serves the largest number of Rice students and is home to seven departments. The Schools of the Social Sciences Access and Opportunity Fund supports low income students ability to participate in course based experiential learning opportunities.

The Gateway Program

Students majoring in the social sciences often have the question, “What am I going to do with my degree?” Rice University students have an answer to this question in the form of the Gateway Program offered by the School of Social Sciences.

The Gateway Programs comprises multiple avenues that provide Social Sciences undergraduates the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to real life. Our professional practica, travel funding to present undergraduate research, and OwlConnect events are designed to link students directly with working professionals. Thus, prior to graduation, our students have an idea what it takes to build networks and become leaders in academia and the workforce.

⭐ Building Research on Inequality and Diversity to Grow Equity (BRIDGE)

BRIDGE (Building Research on Inequality and Diversity to Grow Equity) brings together Rice University faculty and students to enrich understanding of inequality by leveraging our location in Houston, Texas, one of the nation’s most racially and ethnically diverse urban centers. We aim to enhance knowledge of inequality’s patterns, causes, consequences, promote dialogue and action about inequality’s impact; and invest in the training of future scholars of inequality.
