Bailey Hall seats more than 1,300 and is a popular event space. The venue has hosted notable figures such as Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, opera legend Luciano Pavarotti, famous 1977 alumnus Bill Nye “The Science Guy” and comedians Chloe Fineman and Joel McHale.

Bailey Hall is home to the Cornell Concert Series and also hosts wildly popular large lecture classes such as psychology and oceanography.

⭐ Interdisciplinary Scholarship and Collaboration

From our founding, Cornell has encouraged students to explore their interests across disciplines. Today’s students can choose between more than 80 recognized major fields and a host of dual-degree and interdisciplinary programs. Undergraduates intending to pursue careers in health professions, law or veterinary medicine can be found in every college and school at Cornell. Centers and institutes also offer opportunities for students to explore interdisciplinary interests.

Most undergraduates participate in the First-Year Writing Seminar, designed to teach writing techniques and styles across more than 30 departments and programs. Academic and pre-professional advising is available for all students in every college, school and major.

Many academic departments, such as the new Department of Design Tech, bring together faculty and students from numerous areas. Several colleges and schools offer the opportunity for students to major in interdisciplinary studies or even a self-designed independent major.
