Clemson students love to pack the stadiums and cheer on their Tigers! As a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Clemson boasts 17 NCAA Division I athletic teams, including our new women’s softball team and our three-time national champion football team, our two-time national champion soccer team and one-time national champion golf team. This area of campus includes our state-of-the-art sports facilities, ranging from Memorial Stadium (aka Death Valley), Littlejohn Coliseum, Doug Kingsmore Stadium and Historic Riggs Field.
All students have the opportunity to participate in our 15 intramural and 33 club sports. These teams often compete on our on-campus intramural fields or at Fike Recreation Center. At Fike, students have access to cardio and strength equipment at the Swann Fitness Center, indoor and outdoor running tracks, basketball courts, racquetball courts, group fitness classes, a climbing wall and the McHugh Natatorium.

👟 Fike Recreation Center
Originally built in 1930 as the Clemson Field House, Fike Recreation Center is one of two fitness buildings on Clemson's campus. The state-of-the-art facility includes cardio and strength equipment, functional training space, one-tenth-mile indoor track, one-third-mile outdoor track, six basketball courts, five racquetball courts, two group fitness studios, a wellness zone, the McHugh Natatorium, a sauna/steam room, and a 30-foot-high climbing wall.
🏈 Howard's Rock & "The Hill"
Howard's Rock, originally from Death Valley, California, was first placed on a pedestal at the top of The Hill in 1966, but it did not become tradition until just before a football game against Wake Forest on September 23, 1967. Legendary coach Frank Howard told his players if they gave 110%, they could receive the privilege of rubbing the rock. The team won, and now football players rub it for luck as they run down The Hill to the cheers of thousands of Clemson fans.
Known as the most exciting 25 seconds in college football, running down The Hill began out of practicality. The football team dressed at Fike Field House and ran from there to the gate and down the grassy hill onto the field at the start of each game.
