Bowman Field

Named for baseball coach R.T.V. Bowman, the coach of Clemson’s first sports team, the wide field separating campus from the town of Clemson originally served as the traditional parade ground for Clemson cadets, and it is still an unmistakable part of student life. ROTC cadets still conduct drills on Bowman Field throughout the year, and students gather on Bowman Field to relax, play and celebrate special events.

Media Gallery

Situated between Memorial Chapel and Bowman Field, Clemson’s first military drill complex, the 18 steps in Military Heritage Plaza are inscribed with ideals instilled in the Clemson cadet. In addition to the ideals found in Clemson cadets, Military Heritage Plaza showcases an array of ribbons and honors awarded to Clemson cadets, the footprints of brave servicemen and inscriptions from a variety of classes.

Admissions

Clemson is a top-ranked public university that has been among the best colleges for 13 straight years, so admission is highly competitive. You have been working hard your entire life to get to this moment, and now you can put all those challenges and triumphs together in an amazing application.

Most of our applicants have competitive GPAs and present transcripts with college preparatory, honors and AP coursework based on what is offered by their high school.

Other attributes that are considered include:
• Community engagement.
• Varied experiences and talents.
• Unique stories, skills, challenges and triumphs.

The Admissions staff would love to talk with you about taking your next steps to becoming a Clemson Tiger at any time! Check out the Admissions website (clemson.edu/admissions) for more information.

Clemson First-year Scholarships

The Office of Admissions automatically reviews each applicant to Clemson for scholarship eligibility (no additional scholarship application required). High school performance, test scores and financial need are all considered when awarding scholarships. Incoming first-year students must apply for admission by December 1 to be considered. Test scores and official high school transcripts need to be received by Clemson by December 31 for scholarship consideration. Merit scholarship packages will be communicated to students in the spring. To be eligible for federal and state-based aid, we encourage students to complete the FAFSA located at fafsa.gov by January 2. Private loans and scholarships are also available. For more information, visit the Financial Aid website (clemson.edu/finaid).

⭐ US Military Heritage

Clemson’s proud tradition of military excellence dates back to its founding as a military school for cadets seeking the highest academic excellence. In 1916, ROTC was instituted under the National Defense Act, and in 1917 the entire senior class enlisted in World War I. This was the first of many collective acts of bravery exhibited by Clemson University students and alumni. To date, more than 10,000 Clemson alumni have served in the armed forces, and more than 490 have given their lives to secure the freedom of others.

🐯 Homecoming and Tigerama

The excitement, spirit and enthusiasm of Homecoming celebrations have been a Clemson tradition since 1914. During the week preceding the game, Clemson alumni from across the country return to campus. Student organizations build Homecoming displays and construct a house for Habitat for Humanity on Bowman Field. The signature event is Tigerama, one of the nation’s largest student-run pep rallies. Tigerama began in 1957 and has drawn a crowd of Tiger fans ever since for skits, fireworks and the crowning of Miss Homecoming.
