You are now standing on the historic Horseshoe, the location of the original South Carolina College which dates back to 1801. It’s history is full of events that would intrigue any historian; death, a damaging earthquake, destructive fires, a conversion into the SC State House, a military hospital, …a jail…a hiding place of frightened and battered refugees of the Civil War, not to mention its role as a place for classrooms, faculty and student residents, and various periods of student unruly behavior and unrest.

These circumstances make the historic Horseshoe abundant in the key ingredients for some good ghost stores. Most of the stories that are covered in this tour date back to the Civil War, a period that spawned hundreds of ghost stories in the South and throughout America. We will let you decide if the facts outweigh the fiction.
