🖥 Variety of Academic Offerings

Home to numerous departments, the history-filled Chilton Hall is home to the College of Health and Public Service and College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, as well as the Media Library. Whether you’re looking to take an introductory food prep class, take part in a mock disaster drill in the state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center Lab or rent a video game, Chilton has it all.

📜 Namesake

Chilton Hall was named after UNT’s first president, Joshua Crittenden Chilton, and began as the school’s first men’s dormitory in 1938 when it was built. The building was renovated in the late 1980s, filling in the original courtyard of the U-shaped structure to provide an additional 60,000 square feet for offices and classrooms. The outside walls were preserved so now visitors have a close-up view of the building’s original architectural detail.

🥳 Fun Fact

Chilton Hall housed the Harte Flying School, a liaison division of the armed services, early in World War II. The hall then was used as a women’s dorm until the end of the war and was re-converted to a men’s dorm before once again housing women.
