Located just north of Harvard Yard, when it was built in 1973 the Science Center was the largest building ever built for Harvard at the time. The Science Center serves as a center of activities for the math and science departments at Harvard. The nine-story building is home to 5 large lecture halls that can seat up to 500 students; the 24 hour Cabot Science Library; a museum gallery for Harvard’s Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments; laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics, and geology; the Greenhouse Cafe; and a rooftop astronomical observatory that is open to all students. The Science Center is truly a multi-functional space that is utilized daily by all Harvard students.
