About Hamilton
Welcome to Hamilton College, founded in 1793 with the support of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, who served as our first trustee and lent us his name. He represents many of the same things we value as a college: He was an independent thinker, a persuasive writer, and a powerful speaker whose effect on our society was profound. These days, he’s still being appreciated as the subject of the wildly popular Broadway musical. Like our namesake, Hamilton College is pretty popular, too - as you explore this tour, you’ll learn why that’s true.
The statue of Alexander Hamilton faces the College’s chapel, home of the COOP – Community Outreach and Opportunity Project on the third floor. The COOP serves as headquarters for community service opportunities on and off campus, connecting Hamilton students and employees with local nonprofit agencies - creating positive change for our community partners as well as educational experiences for our students.
Taking on a leadership role at Hamilton via the COOP is a great way to learn more about yourself, educate your peers, and prepare for future leadership opportunities in the workplace. Being a student leader in the COOP provides the bonus of motivating others to serve, to make contributions to the community and to become lifelong engaged citizens.
