Purinton House

The building was named for Daniel Purinton, University President from 1901 to 1911. Purinton House is home to our Global Affairs office, serving as the hub for all things from Education Abroad to the Office of International Students and Scholar Services. Purinton House has a rich history, including its role in a very iconic photograph taken back in 1969. In November of 1969, heavyweight boxing champion Muhammed Ali (birth name Cassius Clay) visited Morgantown to speak at the Festival of Ideas.

A banner that reads "Welcome International Students" is hung on the front balcony of the Purinton House.

International Students & Scholars Services

International Students & Scholars Services (ISSS) is committed to service for all members of the international community who participate or will participate in international experiences at WVU. We strive to strengthen, enrich and advocate for international education and cultural exchange by anticipating and responding to specific needs and concerns of this international community. West Virginia University's International Students and Scholars Services is located in Purinton House on the downtown campus.

Center for Black Culture and Research

The CBC&R provides educational, social and cultural support for African and African American Students, faculty, staff, and community members. The CBC&R strives to provide critical support to WVU Students, particularly African American students and students of color with issues concerning recruitment and retention. They also provide the university community with cultural and social events that are unique to the African World experience, create a forum for the study, research and examination of African people and societies, support the development of the state of West Virginia through education, extension and public service activities and serve as an intellectual source for the study and research of African and African American culture and life.
