South Carolina State House

Construction of the State House began in 1854, but was halted in 1865 when General William T. Sherman occupied Columbia. Construction didn't resume for many years after the Civil War and was finally completed in 1907. Free, guided tours of the building are available. Learn more about the South Carolina State House.
