Community Engagement Center (CEC)

The Community Engagement Center (CEC) connects students with volunteer opportunities and community projects, as well as helps students complete their social responsibility praxis graduation requirement. The CEC partners with a number of local organizations and engagement projects, making it easy to pursue volunteer opportunities in several areas of interest.

Civic Engagement

👭 Civic Engagement

Pitzer teaches its students to be responsible citizens of communities both locally and globally by applying their liberal arts studies to concrete actions that benefit others. The CEC is the hub for all volunteer opportunities, and serves as a liaison between the academic institution and community partners, provides internship opportunities, assistance with funding and programming, as well as providing logistical support to students, faculty, staff, and our partners. At Pitzer, you will hear a lot about justice rather than service - our programs and partnerships are dedicated to grassroots activism and sustainable engagement, and our community partners provide opportunities for hands-on work in local advocacy.

CASA Pitzer

One of our community partners, and a popular option for students fulfilling their Social Responsibility Praxis course, is CASA Pitzer. Critical Action & Social Advocacy (CASA) advances critical analysis and community partnerships around the most pressing issues in the Inland Empire. The CASA Pitzer space in neighboring Ontario brings local residents, organizers, activists, artists, and nonprofits together with Pitzer faculty and students to build community and enact change. The CASA Pitzer academic program facilitates student internships and community-based participatory research on issues of regional equity and justice pertaining to incarceration, immigration, education, environment, labor, art, culture, and health.
