This tranquil, wooded area located on Emory’s Atlanta campus provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of college life. The preserve covers 154 acres and offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking.
In the late 19th century, the land was purchased by the Candler family, who built a private estate on the property. Emory University acquired Lullwater from the Candler family in 1958. Emory President Sanford Atwood moved into the mansion in 1963, and Emory presidents have lived there since.
