At Columbia, housing is guaranteed all four years, and nearly 100% of our students choose to live on campus all four years. First-year students find their home away from home at one of five first-year residence hall communities, each with different styles and features. Beyond a built-in network of friends, mentors, and support, they have a beautiful place to live in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
Depth of variety and flexibility in living options makes residential life at Columbia incredibly appealing for returning students. From traditional corridor and suite-style residence halls at the center of campus—to apartment buildings, townhouses, duplexes, and classic New York brownstones all just a short walk away.

All first-years are on a meal plan, making food equally accessible to everyone. Also, food is available 24/7, with at least one of our 3 main dining halls being open at any time during the academic year. Columbia Dining offers a selection of vegan, vegetarian, kosher, halal, gluten-free and nut-free dining options, and will work with individual students to meet specific dietary needs.

Special Interest Communities (SICs) offer a unique residential experience by allowing sophomores, juniors, and seniors to live and explore common interests together. Examples include: Writer's House, Casa Latina, Comedy House, Greenborough (focused on sustainable living), Pan-African House, and more!
